He was predeceased by: his mother Ada Louise Short (Bowman). He is survived by: his father Thomas L. Short; his wife Margaret Ann "Mickie" Short (Yeager); his children, Claude A. Short (Jeanne), David E. Short (Rosemarie), Stephen J. Short (Mabell) and Susan E. Salter (Herman); his stepchildren, Brian C. Kanto (Julied), Christopher M. Kanto (Corrie), Jill A. Kanto and Amanda M. Organek (John); and his brother Charles L. "Chuck" Short. He is also survived by 21 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
