He was predeceased by: his parents, Michael Matera Sr. and Mildred Rhoades; his wife Marie Doris Matera (Kovalesky); his siblings, Joseph Matera and Louise Rodano; and his foster daughter Terrilee Wilson Brennon.
He is survived by: his children, Gary Matera Sr. (Dawn) of Selbyville, DE and Diane Matera (Steven Lamb) of Fort Myers Beach, FL; his grandchildren, Gary Matera Jr., Alicia Burns, Laurie Jenkins and Chelsea Barbely; his great grandchildren, Robbie Everham, Jayden Jenkins, Jackson Barbely, Chloe Burns and Olivia Barbely; his sister Elaine Vogelman; and his foster daughter Rose Wilson Macfarland.
His contributions to his community and his family will be remembered.
