She was predeceased by : her father Joshua Rickards; and her stepchildren, Robert Bender, Sally Ann Zeisloft, Frances O'Keefe and Virginia Bell.

She is survived by : her children, Patricia T. Via (Rick) of Frankford and Perry A. Townsend Sr. of Dagsboro, Delaware.; and her stepson George E. Bender Jr. of Ocean View, Delaware.. She is also survived by nieces and nephews, 38 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the general fund of Saint George's United Methodist Church, 34281 Omar Road, Frankford, Delaware 19945 or Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Delaware 19963.
