He was predeceased by: his parents, Cornelius Melvin and Charlotte Melvin; his brother Thomas E. Melvin; his sister-in-law Eleanor Melvin; and his sibling's children, Angela Melvin and Bruce Williamson.

He is survived by: his brothers, Joseph Melvin (Donna) and Dean Melvin (Karen); his sister-in-law Bonnie Melvin; his siblings' children, Micki Todd (Mike), Tammy Williamson, Gene Melvin (Jen Sowers), Crystal Johnson (Mark), Rachel Bonnewell and Jason Melvin (Erica); and his close friend Eleanor Killen.
