He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry C. Gilbert and Carol E. Gilbert; his wife Esther Muntz Gilbert; his sisters, Ethel Galloway (Amos) and Catherine "Tilly" (William "Smitty" Smith); his siblings-in-law, Barney Helms and Janet Gilbert; his brother Herman Gilbert; and his daughter-in-law Kim Gilbert.

He is survived by: his friend Greg Vizzi; his son Vincent L. Gilbert; his grandsons, Bryan and Brandon Gilbert of Newark, DE; his daughter Shanna Lee Gilbert Rosan (Mike); his grandchildren, Avery, Tyler and Tessa Rosan of Frederica, DE; and his siblings, Ralph Gilbert of Bridgeton, NJ, Henry Clay "Jim" Gilbert (Joyce) of Bridgeton, NJ and Anna "Peachie" Helms. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions be made to in Quiet Thunder's memory to Immanuel Union United Methodist Church, The Brandywine Watershed Regeneration Project, the St. Jones Reserve or the Sierra Club.
