He was predeceased by: his parents-in-law, Dallas and Jean Harshbarger; his sister-in-law Susan Wine; his parents, Clarence Blackwell and Betty Jo McClain; and his siblings, Dale Blackwell and LeAnn Castle.

He is survived by: his wife Linda Harshbarger Blackwell; his children, Stephanie, Rob Lane, Michelle, Brian Ray of Wilmington, DE, Beth and Dane Sheely Jr.; his grandchildren, Goddy (Nathaniel), Matthew, Anna Grace, Emma, Eleanor, Sara, Avery and Anderson; and his friends, Dean, Theresa Waldroup of Hayesville, NC, Jim and Julie Robinson of Clintwood, VA.
