He is survived by: his mother Mary Birney (O'Gorman); his wife Mary Carter Birney; his children, Patrick Birney (Megan), Ryan Birney (Renee), Caitlin Cagwin (Evan), Michael Birney, Brandy Smith, Ross Smith and Jackson Smith; his grandchildren, Lillian, Henry, Mila, Kellan, Jaylynn and Oliviah; his brother Frank (Vivian); and his brother-in-law Sean. He is also survived by aunts, uncle, cousins, nieces, nephews, family and friends.
