He was predeceased by: his parents, Alton J. Wharton, Sr. and Lillie Ann Joyce (Reese); his wife Doris Ann; his son Mark J. Wharton; and his siblings, Lillie Ann Walker, Alice Provin, Mary Pandelakis, Frank Wharton and Jerry Joyce.
He is survived by: his children, John "Jack" (Bonnie) of Middletown, DE, Daniel of New Castle, DE, Paul (Suzanne) of Middletown, DE, Lorrie Scott (Jimmy) of Toccoa, GA and Linda Smith (David) of Bear, DE; his siblings, Clarence Joyce (Barbara), William Joyce (Kathleen), Kathy Baranski (Jerry) and Joy Scott (Steve); and his siblings-in-law, Jim Walker, Dennis Pandelakis, Catherine Wharton and Jewell Joyce. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and 29 great-grandchildren.
