He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert Coates Sr. and Amanda Coates Sr.; and his siblings, Dwight, Johnathan, Daniel, Saul and Abigail Coates.
He is survived by: his siblings, Bernard, Edward, Robert Jr., Dianner Lee, Amanda Jr., Jacqueline and Elizabeth; his sister-in-law Denise Rice-Coates (Robert); his siblings' children, Calvin K. Coates, Rashid Coates, Saeed Coates, Salina Coates-Smith and Amanda Coates; his children-in-law, Gabriela Gomez-Coates (Saeed), Oluwayemisi Oloruntola-Coates (Rashid) and Herman Smith (Salina); his grandchildren, Kennedi Coates, Madysen Coates, Christion Algernon, Alissa Algernon, Nicholas Smith, Makayla Smith, Kaylen Smith, Oluwafunmilayo Coates, Iyinfoluwa Coates, Ayomikun Coates, Gabriela Coates, Tatiana Coates and Anaya Coates; his great grandchild Graysen Phillips; and his friend Cathy Smith. He is also survived by nieces, nephews and friends.
