Cheryl Nobile Aschoff Obituary
Cheryl Nobile Aschoff, 67, of Newark, Delaware, formerly of Dumont, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, September 10th, 2016 after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Cheryl was born and raised in Union City, New Jersey, daughter of the late Pearl Konikoff and John J. Nobile. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School and graduated from Union Hill High School in 1967.
She was an active member of many academic and social clubs. She starred as the female lead in the senior class play and was a member of The Drillettes. She cried when graduating from Union Hill because she enjoyed it so much. Cheryl went on to Montclair State University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Home Economics/Vocational Education and a Master's Degree in Family Life Education.
In 1978, she was excited to be back in high school, this time as a Home Economics teacher at Dumont High School. She held many different roles through the years: twelve years as Varsity cheering coach, Director of Student Activities, organized fashion shows, Middle States Executive Committee, Scholarship selection board, and Class Advisor.
During her many years in the Dumont School District, she also taught Home Economics to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders at Selzer Elementary School. In later years, she taught Health Education at Dumont High School. Cheryl also earned a Master's Degree in Administration and Supervision from New Jersey City University. She held numerous certifications: Principal/Assistant Principal; K-12 Educator; NJ Supervisor Certificate; Home Economics; and Health Education.
The highlight of her career was the eight years she spent as an Athletic Director at Dumont High School. It was a role she was most honored to hold. As a teacher, coach and athletic director, she promoted sportsmanship, school spirit, and helped students achieve their best. For 27 years, she did what she truly loved, teaching and nurturing students.
She retired early to be with her grandchildren. Cheryl was a doting grandmother who made every occasion special by decorating beautiful birthday cakes, sewing elaborate Halloween costumes, and putting love into everything she did with them. Cheryl and her husband Peter were High School sweethearts. They forged a relationship quickly and never looked back.
Time apart during college only strengthened their bond. Marriage, children, an extended family & friend base, grandchildren and travel added to a wonderful life. They enjoyed 51 beautiful years together. They were best friends always and forever. She is preceded in death in addition to her parents, her youngest sister, Jody Nobile Santana.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Peter Aschoff ;her daughter, Mandi Duffy and son-in-law Rob Duffy; her son, Chad Aschoff; her grandchildren, Colin, Connor, Ian, Tighe, and Meghan; her sisters, Randy Driegert (David, Lt. Col. USMC (Ret.) and Debbie (Miguel) Rubio; her brother, Bruce Nobile. She was a cherished aunt and great-aunt to 15 nieces and nephews, and 15 great-nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life and Memorial Service will be held promptly at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at The Graycliff , located at 122 Moonachie Ave, Moonachie, NJ 07074.
