It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Doris Marie Purnell (Newark, Delaware), who passed away on March 12, 2026, at the age of 80, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey Newton and Madelon Newton; her sister Joanne Lackford (James); her brother-in-law Howard Moore; and her niece Michelle Newton Smith.
She is survived by: her husband Jerry Purnell; her children, Kim (John) of Brookline, MA, Yvonne (Steve) of Roan Mountain, TN, Jerry (Shelly) of Hudson, FL and Stephanie (Dennis) of Middletown, DE; her grandchildren, Kayla (Jack), Cole (Sydney), Chace, Lexi and Lauren; her great grandchild Jaxon; her siblings, Betty Moore and Harvey (Joanne Newton); and her friends, George and Betty Juergens. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to her favorite charitable organization, St. Judes Children's Hospital.
