He is survived by: his wife Claire Nelson; his children, Elizabeth Heid (Wendel) of Lewes and Bill Herrington (Colleen) of Vero Beach; his grandchildren, James, Douglas and Lucy Heid; his stepgrandson Richard Davis; and his sister Mary Ann Teague.
