He was predeceased by: his parents, Reverend Richard Hitchens and Alberta Hitchens; his sons, Tyrone and Ronald Hitchens; his siblings, Sylvia Oney (Joe), Theodore Hitchens (Ardella), William Alvin Hitchens, Louis Hitchens (Margo) and Robert Hitchens (Bertha); his siblings-in-law, Carmetta Holden (Donald), Hattie Puckham (Eugene), Helen Hitchens, Richard Cooper, Jr. and Chester Twine; and his daughters-in-law, Vera "Polly" Hitchens and Vanessa "Sue" Hitchens.
He is survived by: his wife Lorraine Hitchens; his children, Donald Hitchens, Jr., Michael Hitchens (Elaine), Kenneth Hitchens (Migdelia), Alan Carr, Rochelle Camper (Kendall), Ashlee Poe and Shirnelle Blango; his brother Charles Wayne Hitchens; his sisters-in-law, Claudette Hitchens and Gwendolyn Twine; and his daughter-in-law Connie Hitchens.
He was also a member of the Delmarva Usher's Board Association, and the Laurel Community Foundation – The Hope House.
