He was predeceased by: his parents, William Mears and Carrie Workman Mears of Seaford, DE.; his wife Ann; his brothers, R. Glen Mears of Clearwater, FL, Ray S. Mears and William Mears (Wink) of Seaford; and his nephew R. G. Mears, Jr. (Ruth McKelvey) of Seaford.
He is survived by: his daughters, Laura Mears (Kevin Hochstedler) of Seaford and Jinny Bird (Frank) of Dagsboro; his grandchildren, Angela Passwaters (John) of Georgetown, Brian Bird (Holly) of Severna Park, MD and Jessica Bird of Dagsboro; his great grandchildren, Jase, Vivian Passwaters, Lucas and Colin Bird; and his close friend Doris Lowe.
A celebration of life was held on Sunday, July 20th 2025 from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Ross Station Event Center (585 N Market St Ext, Seaford, DE 19973).
In lieu of flowers, family respectfully requests donations in his memory to Nanticoke Senior Center, 1001 Locust St., Seaford, DE 19973.
