Devin Michael Marcum Obituary
With a heavy heart, we announce the passing of our son Devin Michael Marcum age 20 of Smyrna. Devin's life ended suddenly on May 23, 2024 In Cheriton VA as he was heading home. At 3:14 PM a high school student crossing the highway at N. Bayside Rd at mile marker 81.3 .. collided with Devin who was riding his 2011 GSXR 1000.
Devin was born in Easton, MD on May 15, 2004, but grew up in the Felton, Harrington and Hartly areas. Devin was a 2023 graduate of Lake Forest High School. At Lake Forest he played football for three years as on both the offensive and defensive lines. Playing football boasted Devin's dopamine and inspired him to get pumped like a well-oiled machine! Devin's daily routine consisted of being with family, riding his motorcycle, the gym, playing video games, food, and work. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle, fast cars, friends, family, and meeting new people in VA to ride with. Since the age of 5, he has had a passion for riding and gaming. He also enjoyed going to the gym and lifting weights. He was a member of multiple gyms on the east coast and worked out 7 days a week no matter what. Devin loved food and did not miss many meals however, he would take no part in making his own meals.
He was employed as a traveling pipe layer, installing new concrete and electrical for our troops as well as at major international airports. His hopes were to become a heavy equipment operator/ electrical journeyman. No matter what he was out to make that money!! "Get rich or die trying".
Devin loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them. Whether it was family by blood or family by blending, he loved them all the same. He was a genuine person with a "Hey Bro Chill-out" attitude.
Devin is survived by his mother Ashley Clay of Felton; his father Charles R. Marcum and Diana (mom) of Smyrna; two brothers Anthony Marcum and James Chance, III both of Smyrna; four sisters: Elyzabeth Marcum of Smyrna, Brooklyn Marcum of Harrington, Ariyanah Golt of Felton, and Angel Frank of Smyrna; his paternal grandparents David Randy Marcum of Cheswold, Darlene Stebner Donze of Hartly, Robert Donze IV of Dover; grandparents (Diana's parents) Jonathan and Dawn Sbriglia of Hartly; his maternal grandparents Michael and Karen Clay of FL; Kermit and Amy Rust of Harrington; his great friend Ulisses Hyman of Harrington; and his "BEST FAMILY" Caleb Johnson of Felton; great grandparents Robert Donze III, Charles Stebner, Claudine Marcum; many uncles, aunts and an abundance of cousins.
Devin owned more than one beloved bike. His 2001 GSXR 1000 will be on display at the service for people to write messages on. It will be presented as a yearly memorial at the location of his father's choosing. There will also be a controlled motorcycle escort to the cemetery and we will be spreading the last shovel of dirt over his casket.
Devin is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Deborah Clay and paternal grandparents Robert and Dallas Marcum; great grandmother Joanne Donze; his uncles Brock Pritchett, Michael Hurd, and Richard Donze, and his great uncle Jimmy Marcum. his cousin Jeffery Bubniak. He will be joining at his place fellow riders Tyler Pack and Eric Stubbs.
A Celebration of Devin's Life will be 12 PM June 3, 2024 at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W Camden Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, DE 19934. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Burial will follow at Hopkins Cemetery in Felton. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to assist with expenses may be made to the funeral home.
