He was predeceased by: his father Bennie Broomer; his wife Dolores Broomer; his children, Ida Jean Wimbley and Lonnie Broomer; his siblings, Ernest Broomer and Ethel Wilson; and his granddaughter Tamika Broomer.

He is survived by: his children, John E. Broomer, Jr. (Dotty), David (Rochelle), Tommy Broomer, Beverly Broomer and Ethel Jenkins (Bob); his stepchildren, Kevin Collins (Veronica), Leon Collins (Kesha), Harold Collins (Athena), Cornelius Collins, James Collins (Tonya), Rosalind Wilson (Demetrius) and Kimberly Collins; and his siblings, Jessie Thomas, Clara Lowe, Mattie McNair and Bennie Broomer (Esther). He is also survived by 38 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends.
