He was predeceased by: his parents, Mamie Rochester and George Saunders; his sisters, Mary Brinney and Patricia Watson; his mother-in-law Mary Saunders; his sister Donna Cotton (Tyrone Wilmer); and his goddaughter Phillis McDole.

He is survived by: his wife Ruth Brooks; his children, William Wilmer (Karen), Kareen Brooks (Daquan) and Ikeem McDole; his sister Gloria Brooks; his aunts, Mary Arrington and Delores Freeman; his siblings-in-law, Derrick, Otis Saunders, Carmen Saunders and Helen Watson; his grandchildren, William Wilmer-Stewart, Eric Wilmer-Stewart (Wilkia), Sharnae Wilmer-Stewart, Stephanie Stewart, Shyaniece Stewart, Byree Wilmer and Ba'ron Wilmer; his goddaughter Shay Wilmer; and his niece Quinette Brown. He is also survived by ten great-grandchildren.
