He was predeceased by: his parents, Blanche E. Simpers and Delbert L. Simpers Sr.; his wife Dorothy Jean; his son James Jr.; his siblings, Wayne Latney, Clifton Lewis and Violet Pettijohn; his godson John Harris; and his former wife Carol E. Latney (Smith).
He is survived by: his children, Cherae, Brande, Marquita Sellman (Mike), Jawann Latney (Morgan) and Ebony Latney; his grandchildren, Ashle (Vernae), Harlan (Melissa), Quierra, Deja, Adrian, Jourdann, Michael and Madison; his great grandchildren, Trevon, Sephira and Harlan "Q."; and his siblings, Arlene Bruce (Benard), Alice Reid (Ronald) and Delbert Simpers Jr. (Rachel). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
