He was predeceased by: his parents, Catherine Stevens Merritt and James Sheridan. He is survived by: his wife Carol Merritt (Permar) of Wilmington; his children, Michelle Merritt Elston of Fort Mill, SC and Nicholas Merritt (Melanie) of Wilmington; his grandchildren, Aurora, Aron James, Aiden, Lucy and Levi; and his brothers, John (Debra), Gregory (Roberta) and Kenneth (Karen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
