Linda Cartee wrote a sympathy message

“I was just talking to my mom about how special Mr. Ray was. I thought I’d look him up and thank him. Sadly, I learned of his passing. Decades ago, A troubled teen from NC moved to DE and attended Wilmington High. Mr. Ray worked so hard to get me in line. He coordinated with my Grandma (she was very fond of him) He gave me more chances than I deserved. I eventually made it out of the darkness. I never forgot him and even though he didn’t know, one of his tougher students loved and appreciated him”

Tracy Herrera wrote a sympathy message

“Mr. Ray was a significant influence in our lives as my son struggled through middle school. The epitome of grace was Mr. Ray. He would call our house often and it got to the point where I recognized his deep baritone of a voice, and before announcing who he was I would say "Good morning Mr. Ray". There would be silence followed by a chuckle. Always a pleasure to speak to. My heart goes out to his family. Our deepest and most genuine condolences to all of you. Mr. Ray was a one of a kind.”
