He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward Jackson and Florence Poitier; and his siblings, Wendell Jackson, Wayne Jackson, Chauncey Jackson and Sarah Key.

He is survived by: his wife Jaunita W. Jackson; his sons, Sean Jackson, Roderick Jackson II (Renthia), James "Jimmy" Jackson (Lazara), Dani Kim (Cristee) and John Jackson (Meagan); his grandchildren, Alexis, Haley, Jasmine, James, Arielle, Daniel, Dominic, Harlo, Lincoln and Theodore; and his sisters, Rogenia Handspike and Cheryl Lopez. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
