He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence C. Ames and Elizabeth Fountain Ames; and his siblings, Richard Manning Ames and Carolyn Mae Ames Harkema. He is survived by: his wife Mary Miles Ames; his children, Elizabeth Ames Leavitt (Chris) of Jacksonville, Sheryl Denise Ames of Pittsboro, NC, Lee Ames Kiley (Richard) of Davidson, NC and Travis Pendleton Ames of Atlantic Beach; his brother Daniel R. Ames; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Leavitt Watterson (Clay) of Jacksonville, David Christian Leavitt (Betsy), William Gaines Leavitt (Sarah) of Charlotte, NC, Graham Davis Kiley (Marianne) of Denver, NC and Ella Gaines Kiley of Washington, DC; his great grandchildren, Miles, Hayes, Grant Watterson, Leelee, Holly Leavitt and Kennedy Kiley; and his close friends, Dr. Helen L. Merrill, Dr. Franklyn A. Johnson, Dr. Frances Bartlett Kinne and Murrell Coker. He is also survived by cousins, nieces and nephews.
