He was predeceased by: his parents, S. K. Smith (Pete) and Lighty McDaniel; his brothers, Donald Smith and Charles Smith (Frank); and his stepson Jeffrie Rector.
He is survived by: his wife Debra Rector Smith; his sister Voncille White; his stepchildren, Tosha Holley and Jeremy Thornton; and his grandchildren, Jocelyn Rector and Joseph Rector. He is also survived by nine other grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
