He was predeceased by : his parents, Rosemary Ryan Murphy and Dr. John Moylan Murphy, Sr.; his former life partner Judy Murphy; and his sisters, Margie Kelly and Anne Murphy.

He is survived by : his wife Hebe Dowling Murphy; his children, John Murphy, Ellen Murphy and David Murphy (Anne); his stepchildren, Meaghan Chorske (Mike), John Dowling (Laura) and Peter Dowling (Deb); and his grandchildren, Ellie, Sam Murphy, Jack, Kate Chorske, George and Sally Dowling. He is also survived by other loving family members and friends.
