He was predeceased by: his parents, Wilfred Grimes and Margaret Grimes; and his sisters, Margaret Richter and Mary Kay Geis. He is survived by: his wife Carol; his children, Martha McMeekin (John) of Northville, Michigan and Michael Grimes (Ellen) of Northville, Michigan; his grandchildren, Samuel, Hannah, Lily McMeekin, Michael, Marcus and Hope Grimes; and his brother John V. Grimes (Irene) of Arizona. He is also survived by several cousins, nieces and nephews.
