We announce the death of Sixto Jose Garcia of Boynton Beach, Florida, who passed away on August 22, 2026, at the age of 83. Sixto’s absence will be deeply felt by those who valued his companionship.
He was predeceased by: his parents, Maria Teresa Sanchez Martinez and Sixto Jose Garcia Ferrer. He is survived by: his wife Elena Muller Garcia; and his children, Teresa, Tomas and Cardiff.
Visitation was held on Friday, August 28th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Caballero Rivero Westchester (8200 Bird Rd, Miami, FL 33155). A funeral service was held on Saturday, August 29th 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Centro (12190 SW 56th St, Miami, FL 33175).
He made major contributions to journals of the Catholic Theological Society of America such as the Journal of Hispanic and Latino Theology, and he served as president of the Academy of Catholic Hispanic Theologians from 1999–2000.
