He was predeceased by: his brother Paul; his parents, Viktor and Helene (Auras); his former wife Martha (Baumann); and his sisters, Stefania (Glowalla) and Margarete (Spallek).

He is survived by: his siblings, Viktor (Gerta) and Elfrieda Schneider (Horst); his daughter Mary Ann Costello; his granddaughter Emily; and his stepdaughters, Constance McFarland, Frances Fairman, Deborah Weisenberg and Catherine O'Brien.
