He was predeceased by : his siblings, Linda Ann Guess, Gene Lewis and George 'Bucky Lewis. He is survived by : his wife Melba Lewis; his children, Brenda Sue Henson (Butch), Peggy Hodges, Jimmy Lewis (Deborah) and Timmie Lewis (Jeana); his siblings, Geraldine Thompson and Skippy Lewis; and his grandchildren, Nikki Harrell (CJ), Jessica Welchel (Corey), B. T. Sullivan (Kara), Kendell Fairchild, Matthew Lewis (Heather), Karen Stewart (Justin), Kenneth 'Bubba Lewis, Heather Garris, Rachael Patrick (Mark), Ashley Long and Eli Long. He is also survived by fifteen great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to your local food bank - feeding those in need was close to Wendell's heart.

Conrad Umberger wrote a sympathy message

“He was an ispiration and gave loving support when my wife was young and growing up. She told me some wonderful stories about the good times they had and good advice he gave her. I am glad he touched a part of my lifes journey. I never met a friendlier person. May you rest in peace, and say hello to my sweet wife when you get there. Prayers to the family, Conrad Umberger, husband ot the late Ruth Maud Umberger.”
