She was predeceased by: her parents, Norman Messer and Irene Messer; and her husband Bertram Wakefield, Jr.. She is survived by: her children, Michael Wheaton (Elizabeth Merryfield), Patrick Gentry and Shannon Gentry Wester; her grandchildren, Pilot, Geoffery Wheaton (Madison), Virginia Walker Gentry, Bryan Daniel Henry (Jordan) and William Patrick Gentry; her great grandchild Thomas Walker Ryan; and her siblings, Linda Martin, Roger Messer (Betsy), Rev. William "Bill" Messer (Mary), Robert "Bob" Messer, Sue Whittington (Ricky) and Kaye Robinson (Dennis).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in her memory.
