He is survived by: his mother Janie Elizabeth Colson; his siblings, Janie Elizabeth Colson, Marvin Dale Colson and Glenn David Colson; his wife Teresa Colson; and his children, Richard Daniel Colson, Sharon Kay Colson, Kandace Cumpton and Vicky Marie Moore. He is also survived by eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
