He was predeceased by : his parents, Groveland Cleveland and Strawdie Chavis. He is survived by : his wife Maxine Chavis; his children, John Charles Johnson Jr. (Amy) and Sharnell Shirree Chavis (Dan); his siblings, Joseph Chavis (Ethel), Wayne Chavis (Belinda), Carolyn Leadell, Rose Hunt, Grace Chavis, Delores Allen and Mearlene Weiss (Wendell); his grandchildren, John, Sheyenne, Janae, Alyssa and Liam; and his great grandchildren, Colton, Talan and Maybrie. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
