William Curtis Brown Obituary
William Curtis Brown, 53, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday, January 9th in Fernandina Beach, FL. Curtis was born November 2nd, 1968, to William K. and Susan J (Deen) Brown.
Their Navy family was stationed in Groton, CT, Charleston, SC and Pascagoula, MS before settling in Fernandina Beach, FL when he was a young teen. Through these travels are where he developed his love for shark's teeth, bottle collecting and antiques. He graduated from Fernandina Beach High School, Class of 1986. He is best known as a permanent fixture (and Director of Maintenance) at The Palace Saloon, where he would tell the history of Florida Oldest Bar, as well as clean, maintain and restore the historic building on Centre Street. He also spent more than 30 years as "the Rat" of Packrat Antiques, his restoration company. Many of the building and home furnishings in the Historic District retain his handiwork today.
Curtis is survived by his wife, Shannon Barton Brown, children Jeremy (Niasha) Roberts, Larissa (Daemon) Barnes and John Cameron Brown; two adorable grandchildren Miley Kathleen Barnes and Calvin Eugene Roberts, wonder puppy Emma Lou; and all who considered him an uncle, brother of friend.
He is preceded in death by his mother Susan Jane Brown, stepfather Robert J Lytle and daughter, Kyla Kathleen Roberts. A Life Celebration/Wake was held on January, January 29th, 2022 at The Palace Saloon, 117 Centre Street in Fernandina Beach. In lieu of flowers, please offer a donation to the Nassau Humane Society.
