She was predeceased by: her husband Dr. Kenneth Whitson; and her daughter Dr. Becky Whitson. She is survived by: her children, Patty (Stan) of Charlotte, NC, Mike (Arlene) of Greensboro, NC and Debbie of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.; her grandson Jason (Christina) of Pittsburgh, PA; and her stepgrandchildren, Rachelle (Adam) and Tyler (Brianna).
