He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. B. James and Winifred "Winnie" Jeanette Harris James; his brothers, Rick, Willard and Jack James; and his daughter Valerie James.
He is survived by: his wife Linda Hancock James; his children, Chris, Kenny, Gary, Justin James, Laurie, Andienna, Susan and Kayla; and his great grandchild Carter White. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren.
