She was predeceased by: her father Robert Schmidt; and her brother David Ryan Schmidt. She is survived by: her husband Michael W. Langan; her mother Eloise Hall Schmidt; her son Michael Christopher Lewis (Anna); her stepsons, Jonathan Langan (Ricky), Joshua Langan (Megan) and Jason Langan (Gerry); her brothers, Robert T. Schmidt Jr. (Regina) and Steven W. Schmidt; her grandchildren, Melody Lewis, Kensley Lewis, Carson Kreilich, Brantley Langan, Presley Langan, Gabriel, Gideon Langan and Kamele Langan; her niece Savannah Schmidt; and her nephew Raymond Schmidt.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Bullock Funeral Home (1190 Wilson Hall Rd, Sumter, SC 29150). A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 12:00 PM at the Bullock Funeral Home Chapel (1190 Wilson Hall Rd, Sumter, SC 29150). The military honors will be held on Monday, October 19th 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery (4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229).
In lieu of flowers, Gayle would prefer donations in her name to any veterans' organizations such as the Gary Sinise Foundation or Tunnels to Towers.
