We bid farewell to Freda Schaefer of Jacksonville, Florida, born in Marietta, Mississippi, whose journey of life gracefully concluded on September 21, 2025 at the age of 82. Freda touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. She was predeceased by: her son Brad Vail; her parents, Prentiss Taylor and Eula Taylor; and her siblings, Barb Gunter and Jerry Taylor.
She is survived by: her husband Gregory Schaefer; her daughters, Tyra Hawkins and Tisha Kelley; her grandchildren, Bryce Hawkins, Chase Hawkins, Landry Kelley, Colin Kelley and Carson Kelley; and her brothers, Jim Taylor (Lynette) and Larry Taylor (Gayle).
Visitation will be held on Friday, October 10th 2025 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Saturday, October 11th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Congdon Funeral Home (3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, IL 60099). A funeral service will be held on Saturday, October 11th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ's Church Academy's new athletic complex, a legacy project that Freda would be proud to support.
