He was predeceased by: his parents, Leland Sanford Carter and Nancy Nagel Carter; and his sister Nancy Jill Carter (Crystal Bryant Carter). He is survived by: his wife Linda Carter; his sons, Bradley C. Carter and Travis L. Carter (Lindsey); and his stepchildren, Emily Brown, Kaytee Kachurak and Nathaniel DeShong. He is also survived by eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
