He was predeceased by: his parents, Gladys Mae Brown and Douglas Warren Sparks; and his close friend Boca Barranca Sparks. He is survived by: his wife Nenita Gutierrez Sparks; his stepchildren, Laura Fulinara, Marcus and Maddy Fulinara; and his grandson Landen Fulinara.

In lieu of flowers the family requests a donation be made in memory of John to the American Cancer Society Melanoma Research.
