He was predeceased by: his father Donald Nystrom. He is survived by: his mother Gloria Nystrom; his wife Julie; his children, Jack (Tierney), Kate, Brett and Brian (Elizabeth Henderson); and his brother Dwight (AK). He is also survived by nieces, nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mark's memory to the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital, home of the Hawkeye Wave.
