He was predeceased by: his parents, James Nevels and Claudine Nevels; his sisters, Willigem Crocker and Betty Ates; and his daughter Kimberly Kay Nevels.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Kay Nevels; his children, Melinda Johnson (Brian) and James Michael Nevels; his grandchildren, Mary Yant (Robby), Austin Sapp (Courtney), Karrie Hutchcraft (Tyler), Brody Johnson (Bentley), Joseph Michael Nevels and Holley James Nevels; and his siblings, Mary Dean Donaldson, Totsye Nevels, Jeanne Pepper, Gwen Golden, Patton Nevels (Sandy), Obie Nevels (Reta) and Marty Nevels (Delaine). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, May 20th 2026 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Jay First Baptist Church (14113 S Alabama St, Jay, FL 32565). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 at 2:00 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Thursday, May 21st 2026 at the Jay Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Diabetes Association in honor of "daddy's little girl," Kimberly.
