He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Emanuel Bailyn and Elsie Morris Bailyn; his sister Merna Kaplove; his wife Inez Bailyn; his children, Lisa Bailyn of North Andover, Massachusetts, Peter Bailyn of Wilmington, Delaware and Ronald Bailyn (Patricia Morris) of Cape Elizabeth; and his granddaughter Linnea Parker of North Andover.

He inspired award-winning stories & drew top-flight reporters, but ultimately was fired for refusing to identify union activists. His departure triggered staff flight & an era of dwindling ambition. Blacklisted but not bitter, Bob switched to academia at universities in Pennsylvania & Florida. Lucky them. Lucky me, for a great teacher & lifelong friend. Michele Derus”
