He was predeceased by: his parents, John Walter and Ella Elizabeth Wheelis; and his sons, Larry Wheelis (Susan Wheelis) and Richard Wheelis (late Joyce Wheelis). He is survived by: his wife Janet Wheelis; and his children, Gail Tront (late Larry Tront), Michael "Mike" Wheelis (Gayla Wheelis) and Jeff Wheelis (Trish Wheelis). He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
