He was predeceased by : his parents, Alexander Leon Yates and Willie Marie Griffin Yates; his former life partner Ruha Hilda Holloway Yates; his daughter Sheila Yates; and his brothers, Wildern, Julian, Bud, Robert, Earl and Donald.
He is survived by : his daughter Lisa Yates Lamon (Don); his wife Frances L. Handley; his sons, Leon Jr. and Alex (Rhonda); his grandchildren, Kayla Yates Spears (Taylor), Tyler Yates (Preslie), Mackenzie Yates and Ella Yates; and his sisters, Louise, Argie and Ruth. He is also survived by ten great grandchildren and nieces and nephews and cousins.
