He is survived by: his wife Deborah Ann Provost Placek; his children, Travis Placek, Kristen Placek Pinner (Ty Pinner) and Meghan Placek; his grandchildren, Tyson, Kamryn, Jessina and Kristina; his sister Dorothy "Penny" Schmidt; his brother-in-law Harold Schmidt; his nephews, Chuck and Steve; his niece Sarah; his sister-in-law Melva; and his nephews, Colin, Christopher and Kele. He is also survived by many cousins and dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to pancreatic cancer research in Richard's memory, helping advance research into the disease he faced with such courage and grace.
