He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth Ann Cowan; his parents, Sybil Knight Cowan and Wade Douglas Cowan; his siblings, Eldon Cowan, Donald Cowan and Frances Cowan; his sons, Edward Armstrong and Walter Armstrong (Dale); and his brother-in-law Jerry Williams.
He is survived by: his children, Robert Cowan Jr. (Bobby), Dennis Cowan (Michael), Patricia McIlwain (Alex) and Tonya Lockamy (John); his sisters, Linda Cowan, Doris Williams, Deborah (Dan Simmons) and Wanda (Rondell Harp); his sister-in-law Cindy Cowan; and his brothers, Arthur Cowan, Kenneth (Clara Cowan) and Earl (Mary Jo Cowan). He is also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family appreciates donations to Good Shepherd Hospice or the Alzheimer's Association in memory of Robert.
