He was predeceased by: his wife Rachel Gill Carter; his parents, Oscar Carter and Blanche Carter; and his siblings, Kathleen "Kitty" Smith, Lois Carter, Mable Carter, Glenn Carter, Ernest Carter and Henry Carter.
He is survived by: his children, Del Carter and Vonda Carter Brown (Dennis); his siblings, Virgil Carter (Jannette), Linda Taylor and Sheila Garrison; his granddaughter Lindsay Brown Detweiler; and his great grandchildren, Ryder Dale Detweiler, Abel Jace Detweiler and Carter Gentry Detweiler. He is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Haven Hospice in honor of Gene Carter, so they may continue providing compassionate end-of-life care to families in need, or to the Spirit of the Suwannee Children's Music Camp, helping ensure that the love of Bluegrass music continues to live on in future generations.
