He was predeceased by : his parents, John Wills and Annie Lois Powell; and his siblings, Joe, Clinton Powell, Annie Pearl Powell, Lavonne Fowler and Mary Lou Tyus.

He is survived by : his son Steve Powell (Sharoi) of Dothan, Alabama; his wife Dianne B. Powell; his son Doug Powell (Shannon) of Altha; his grandchildren, Sydney Kate Powell, Kamauri Russ, Royal Powell and Reagan Powell; his sister Cora Strickland; and his siblings-in-law, Gloria Powell and Joe Bob Baxter. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
