He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert T. Messner and Bernice Hande. He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his son Kenneth Messner; his brother Robert Blair Messner; his sister-in-law Grace; his stepdaughter Katherine; his son-in-law Jason Chachere; and his granddaughters, Karley, Lea and Kate.
Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation in Pensacola, Florida.
