He was loved and cherished by many people including: his father James (Anna Jean Japour); his sister Mary Ann Japour; his brother-in-law Stuart Stafman; his niece Laura; his nephew Joshua; his great-niece Emma; and his great-nephew Bradley.

Dr. Japour trained at Harvard Medical School with subspecialty training in infectious diseases, where he later served as an Assistant Professor of Medicine and received the prestigious American Foundation for AIDS Research Scholar Award. He also received research grants from the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the NIH–NIAID K-11 Physician Scientist Award, and an NIH R01 grant.
