She was predeceased by: her parents, Lawrence Benham and Lillian Boyd Benham; and her husband Tech Sergeant Michael J. Dengate. She is survived by: her children, Darcey Lynn May Bailey (Marvin) of Atlanta, Maria Lynn Smith Chance of Milton, Amanda Benham Smith DeRoss (John) of Indianapolis, Ashley Rose Smith Lett of Fort Walton Beach and James Michael Smith of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; her grandchildren, Javonn Sims, Taylor Smith, Keyerra Sims, Cheyenne Chance, Jackson Bailey, Jadyn Lynch, Kayleigh Bailey, Hannah DeRoss and Aurelia DeRoss; and her siblings, Mary Kay Benham Youngquist of Bloomington, Yochanan John Lawrence Benham of Avoca and Malinda G. Benham of Bloomington, Indiana. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, Carolyn would have loved if anyone who desired would make a charitable contribution in her memory to their local humane society or animal rescue center.
